What Is SUI?
SUI is the native token of the
Sui blockchain, developed by
Mysten Labs. Sui is a next-generation Layer 1 blockchain designed for
high scalability, ultra-low fees, and instant transaction finality, making it ideal for
decentralized applications (dApps),
GameFi,
social platforms, and
NFT ecosystems.
Key Features of Sui:
- High throughput: Capable of processing 100,000+ transactions per second (theoretically) thanks to its object-centric data model and parallel transaction execution.
- Low fees: Transactions cost just a fraction of a cent.
- Move programming language: Originally created by Meta (Facebook) for the Diem project, also used by Aptos.
- Web3 & Metaverse-ready: Strong focus on user-friendly onboarding, NFTs, DeFi, and real-time gaming experiences.
What Is the SUI Token Used For?
- Paying gas fees for transactions and smart contract interactions.
- Staking: Users can delegate SUI to validators and earn rewards (typically 5–8% APY).
- Network participation: Future governance voting rights are planned.
- Validator collateral: Required to run or support network nodes.
Which Wallets Support SUI?
As of 2024–2025, SUI is supported by the following wallets:
Official Wallet:
Multi-Asset Wallets:
- Trust Wallet (mobile) — added SUI support in 2023.
- Ledger (hardware) + Sui Wallet (via browser extension) — best for cold storage and security.
- OKX Wallet — supports SUI and DeFi interactions.
- Bitget Wallet (formerly BitKeep) — supports SUI transfers and NFTs on Sui.
Important: SUI operates on its
own native blockchain (Sui Network) —
not Ethereum, not BSC, not Solana.
Therefore,
MetaMask does NOT natively support SUI. While some bridges offer wrapped SUI (e.g., on Ethereum), these are
not recommended for long-term storage and lack full functionality.

Pro Tip:
If you buy SUI on an exchange (e.g.,
Binance, Bybit, OKX, KuCoin),
always withdraw it to a self-custody wallet like Sui Wallet or Ledger.
Crucial: When withdrawing,
select the “Sui Network” (not ERC-20, BEP-20, or any other chain). Sending SUI via the wrong network may result in
permanent loss of funds.
Summary:
SUI is the utility and staking token of the high-performance
Sui blockchain. For secure storage and full access to the ecosystem, use the
Sui Wallet,
Trust Wallet, or a
Ledger device paired with Sui Wallet. Avoid keeping large amounts on exchanges, and always double-check the withdrawal network!
