In December 2025, the Trump administration made two massive moves in U.S. immigration policy that are shaking the world:
- Full Suspension of the Diversity Visa (Green Card Lottery) Program On December 18–19, 2025, President Trump ordered the immediate freezeof the DV Lottery. The reason: the tragic events at Brown University and the murder of an MIT professor. The suspect (a Portuguese national, Claudio Neves Valente) reportedly entered the U.S. in 2017 through this very program and received his green card via it. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem declared: the program is “dangerous” and “must never harm Americans again.”
- The program is not canceled (that requires Congress), but processing of applications and visa issuance is completely halted.
- Hundreds of thousands affected: winners of DV-2025, DV-2026, and new DV-2027 applicants. This is the second suspension during Trump’s presidency (first in 2020 due to COVID).
- Trump Gold Card Program Officially Live At the same time, the official site trumpcard.gov launched the Trump Gold Card— a fast-track green card for wealthy foreigners.
- Price: $1 million (plus $15,000 processing fee).
- For companies: $2 million to sponsor a key employee.
- Plans for a “Platinum Card” at $5 million with extra tax benefits.
- Direct contribution to the U.S. Treasury (no mandatory business investment like EB-5).
- Based on EB-1/EB-2 categories (“extraordinary ability” or “advanced degree”).
- Officially rolled out December 10, 2025 — applications are already being accepted.
